Even the best behaved children can be messy, and getting them to clean up after themselves, or even tidy up at all can be very difficult. So if you’re sick and tired of forever tripping over various discarded toys and bits of forgotten homework, here are some tips to help you get the kids moving, and hopefully even tidying up after themselves.
Have a Clear Out
It’s easy to collect junk over the years, and this is even truer when you have kids, as they seem to come with a lot of excessive luggage, including clothes, toys and furniture, and if you don’t get rid of it straight after they’ve grown out of it, then chances are it’ll end up sticking around, clogging up cupboards and attics for years to come. So if you’ve accumulated a lot of long forgotten and disused baby accessories, it’s time to get rid of it all, which will then free up space for the more important items in your home.
Make Tidying Up Fun
Picking up discarded toys and other assorted items isn’t really that fun for anyone, but if your children are young enough, you could turn this laborious process into a game of sorts, where the child is rewarded with ‘points’ or ‘gold stars’ for not only tidying their room, but also keeping it neat. But remember to tell the children that if the rules of the game aren’t followed properly, such as, if they haven’t tidied up properly, or left their favourite Barbie or
Fireman Sam toys out after playing with them, then they can lose points and any privileges they might have earned up until then.
Listen to Their Suggestions
The chances are that the children may have some ideas of what they’d like their rooms to look like, such as if they need more shelves or want to have the room repainted. So remember to listen to what your little ones have to say about their room, and you could always use their ideas as an incentive to get them to tidy.
